On a different thread I recently posted that my child's Bancroft pre-K class was 16:2 (one teacher, one instructional aide). Since then the class has grown to 19; teacher told me 20 is the max.

Last year our Pre-S class had only 16 kids. Not sure if the allowed ratio goes up in pre-K, or if our class last year was underenrolled.

Ratio at IT is 22:2.

My child's pre-K class has 22 kids with two teachers. My firstborn's previous class had 18 kids with 3 teachers, but they were accredited by NAEYC, which meant the ratio was a legal requirement. The two teachers my current pre-K child has are amazing, but always seem exhausted at the end of the day, probably due to the fact that they are in the classroom the entire day with 22 active and energetic kids, some who seem to have a wide range of challenging behaviors. It seems to me that burn out could happen rapidly in a situation like this, and we really don't want for that to be the case, because we definitely don't want them to leave.

PP, yes, I think DCPS has required ratios (those sound right), but not for charters, which set their own rules.

I've heard DCPS says there may be no more than 20 (maybe it's 25) which is why their Pre-K programs max out, but then the K classes explode. They HAVE to take the K students, but they can worm out on Pre-K.

Yu Ying, which generates such vitriol from a particular so-called "Master Teacher" keeps its ratio to 16.

I researched this question previously, calling the Public Charter School Board and OSSE. It seems that there is no required ratio. I was looking for PS, but would be the same for PK. They are independent charter schools -- they can do what they want. There was some required ratio if they got a specific grant from OSSE but other than that, no.

Where can I find this information? I am interested in information regarding prek classrooms in DC charter schools, specifically.
