I doubt a difficult person would ever recognize themselves, FWIW.

one of my coworkers often recognizes my posts. I have a rather unique story and apparently a recognizable style of writing. I'm cool with that.

I have another friend who I know posts on here. A couple of times I've thought about soliciting advice on how to deal with her (she's a difficult friend) but I'm afraid she'd recognize herself in the post and I'm not really looking for that confrontation. (and wouldn't want to hurt feelings, either.)

I also signed my name by accident one time, because I was accustomed to listservs and emails. I got LOTS of emails from friends who read this board. Had no idea how many people follow DCUM!

This is exactly why I never post the straight facts. For example, if it's not absolutely relevant, I'll change the ages of my kids, my/DH's age, our school/work situation, my job, my marital status, or our neighborhood.

^^^ I was far too forthcoming with identifying details, but I figured, she lives in Colorado Springs, there's no chance she's reading this site, right? even tho I forwarded her a link years ago about a universal topic like diaper rash. I assume she read that link and then forgot about a site devoted to an East Coast city .... wrong!

I've recognized a neighbor on here, posting anonymously about her kid at great length. Nothing terrible, but I think she'd be embarrassed if I knew it was her.

I posted once in 2010 about how &$% annoying my sister was, and I'm pretty sure she saw that highly descriptive OP and responded in the thread -- and she lives two time zones away!!

yes, it's anonymous, but I think I've posted enough about myself in a question or two that someone who knew me casually could be fairly sure it was me (ie, if you say you're new, w/ DC ages this and this, just moving to x neighborhood from Y...)

There is on eguy I don't know but is REALLY annoying. Instead of a "yes" man he is a "no" man, but I wonder what else he should be doing all day rather than being so unhelpful and toxic on here! He has phrases he uses all the time - YAWN!

I did and I asked the person to forgive me but they didn't respond.

As people rant about their husbands, bosses, encounters at the store etc, I can't help but wonder how often it has happened that someone has recognized him or herself on here? I'm hesitant to post some things on here about my neighborhood, for example, because I know some of my neighbors are sometimes on the forum...

Any good stories? (though I guess if anyone had a really bad experience, they wouldn't be posting here any more!)
