OP here ... PP, may I know, have you decided to go with a plastic surgeon or a dermatologist for the removal?

I have one too and I'm scheduled to have it removed at the end of the month. It's on my upper arm. I find myself absent-mindedly feeling it when I cross my arms and don't like the way it looks. I'm not to worried about a scar because I'd prefer a scar to the bump. It really wasn't a big decision for me.

OP here ... It's been so long since anyone commented here, so it's good to read a reply. Good luck, PP. I am still (!) figuring out what to do, but I'm strongly leaning toward having the bump excised. I'm afraid that it will regrow, but hopefully if it is removed well, it will leave just a white scar (I have sensitive skin, and don't heal well generally from cuts ... So, the scar part worries me, too).

The Dermotologist PA just sliced it from my upper back arm and sent it for a biopsy for good measure.
I HATE this thing...it goes up and down...greyish, scaled, itchy, and reminds me of a third nipple on
my arm. Will let you know if it grows back. I'd trade a nice white scar for it anyday.

OP here, hi PP. It's good you've not had further growth. In my case, the increase has been very gradual, but I do note a change from a from months back. I'm still unsure what to do. Mine sometimes itches, and it is annoying if I accidentally scratch it somehow. One option is to see the dermatologist who originally saw me (took the biopsy, determined what it was), and ask for his referral to a (good!) plastic surgeon. Or, find the surgeon myself. I'm not sure what's best...

I have a couple on my legs. Periodically I accidentally shave one of them and it bleeds but doesn't go away. I haven't done anything about them but mine don't seem to be growing.

OP here. I was surprised to see a post here given it's been a while. 20:08, unfortunately, no, I have not decided yet. And in the meantime, the bump has continued to grow. Is yours on your arm as well?

Hi PPs, OP here. Thanks so much for writing. I am really unsure just now what to do, so any information and suggestions are welcome. 18:02, I appreciate your recommendation. For something that might leave a permanent mark, I'd also hope to find someone skilful (and ideally it won't grow back, but there's no promise of that ...)

PP, I've heard/read similarly, so it's a tough decision. I don't like to be vain to be bothered by it, but it's so obvious to me (and would be to anyone who looks at my arm), and I don't like that. Ahhh... have to think about it more....

I also have one that I am considering having removed. My dermatologist told me that most people choose to leave them alone rather than trade it for a scar, but mine itches and hurts quite a bit if it is bumped or scratched so I am done with it.

She said that it's a simple procedure. They'll just cut it out and stitch me up.

i had one removed from my thigh, outer side a couple inches above the knee. i chose to remove it because after not being bothered by it for many, many years it had become enlarged and painful. the growth was removed by a dermatologist (Dr. Castiello in Chevy Chase). He used a punch type tool that goes deeper into the skin as the growth was quite deep. i needed two or three stitches and went back about two weeks later to have them removed. there is a small scar that has faded very well. i have very fair skin and scar easily so i am not sure how this heals in others. dr. castiello also cut out some cysts for me and the scars are barely noticeable. i had previously had to have a mole removed by another dermatologist and he left a horrible scar. dr castiello is great and i no longer have the throbbing pain in my leg.

Hi everyone, I have a dermatofibroma (benign skin growth), one one forearm, and I notice it is slowly increasing in size. FYI, in case helpful, these are some examples from online; mine isn't as dark as the ones here, but is pink, and noticeable, because my skin color is quite fair: http://www.skinsight.com/adult/dermatofibroma.htm

I'm glad of course that it is a benign type of growth, but I'm not happy that it might keep increasing in size, and I don't like how it appears (like having a permanent wart/pimple). I also tend not to heal well from cuts/scrapes, so if say I have surgery to remove it (would be with a plastic surgeon), who knows, I might have a scar for a long while (slow to heal), and the fact that I have a scar right on my forearm probably will bother me...

Sorry, long note. I was just wondering if anyone else has had removal for this type of growth, and what your outcome was. It seems this type of growth has a high probability of recurrence, so that's another wonder/worry. Or, are there other treatment options?

Thanks in advance ...
