This thread is so sad.. My question is, "Does this upset any of you that you are not close?"

Everytime my mom is around, I find myself whispering to my 3 year old, "I promise to never be crazy and drive you nuts when I'm older."

For those of you who can relate, what do you hate about your mother? I ask this as a mom of a daughter who wants to avoid making similar mistakes.

I did this to my dad, it was so liberating! I'm done and forever and I'm a peace knowing that we will never talk again on this side of life.

I don't know ho I hate more - my mom when she is nasty and selfish (most of the time) or people who can not accept that not all mothers are either like theirs, or even nice. Of course, I'm not up anyone's a**(MIL or mom) for money, so that makes life a LOT easier

There's a difference between "typical" changes in relationships over time and not being able to stand being in the same room with someone. I don't speak to my mother at all except for the 3-4 times a year that I have to see her, and even then, it's impossible to have a conversation. I don't think that's a "typical" mother-daughter relationship.

Me too. I've actually just mostly stopped talking to her. I'll talk to my dad when I call and my mother never calls me anyway.

She seems my kids a few times a year, but that's it.

I'm with the OP. I can't stand being in the same room with my mom either.

I visited my mother while PG with twins and had to go on bed rest...she kicked me out of her house because she didn't like my "ungrateful" attitude (meaning that I didn't thank her enough for letting me stay a few days extra, apparently).

But then at our next visit (much much later) things were fine. It's that way with her...nice, nice, nice, CRAZY FUCKING INTERLUDE OF PSYCHO, nice, nice, nice. It's so hard to deal with that I have limited my time with her but can't cut her out entirely for my kids' sake (she is always nice to them).

Please, get in line.

I only have to see her a few times a year - because of my kids - but man, even that takes some serious effort. Ugh.
