Honestly, it doesn't look that bad to me. It looks like grandma's house. It will be like 75% better with new paint and carpet (relatively cheap), and then new bathroom tile and a new kitchen will get you the rest of the way. (more expensive).

You are paying for a big house and a big lot.

A confession: I'm kind of digging the indoor hot tub. I'm old and have a bad back.

Well - I didn't think it was too bad. Definitely needs carpet removed, updated kitchen and baths, but it looks clean and taken care of. You'd never know by looking at my house that it was DISGUSTING inside, some of rooms fixtures dated back to the 40s. We bought and didn't move in for 7 months, the basement was a gut job (severe water damage) and lots and lots of other renovations. To this day, we're still doing renovations. In reality, that house would be an easy makeover. I've seen some doozies (think cheap husband ! Looks like a solid house that has a lot of potential.

I'm a fan of split levels, although we have a bungalow, especially the 4 and 5 levels splits.

I get that the house is (or was) clearly inhabited by old people, but that is bad taste + old people squared. My grandmother is 90 and has lived in the same house in Baltimore since 1952 and her friends all have lived in the same houses for decades and none of their homes look like that. That kind of crap is just plain tacky. Old people does not always equal bad taste.

That is a lot of carpet, and I bet it's pretty gross, especially in the kitchen. My guess is that it is original owners.

Honestly, wallpaper removal and painting are pretty easy and really cheap. If you like the area (I have never heard of it and was expecting to see a house in the Italian city when I opened the post), the lot, and the lay out of the house, then it might not be a bad idea. Older people who owned one home for a long time often took good care of things like the mechanical systems, which are expensive to replace.

The exterior is fine, the interior needs updating, the same house in North Arlington would cost more, and the Woodson HS pyramid is better than anything in DC or Alexandria.

That house screams Old People. I dig the vintage bathrooms and it says there are hardwood floors under that hideous carpet. But yeah. Everything else needs to go.

It's a huge house on a large lot. It's ugly, but what you are paying for is the size, not the taste. That bwing said, it will not sell, IMO, for more than 599.

I think the problem might be "Mantua." I had to look that up on a map, and then it wasn't there.
