Don't tell them about your situation in the phone interview but if it progresses then you'll need to let them know, and if you start your new position in the interim then that's the way it goes. There are ways to let the interviewers know about your situation in a professional way that underscores your excitement and interest in their position. I have been in the situation of having just started at one job and then getting interviews and an offer for my dream-job, and it all worked out for the best. GL again!

Do it. My mom was in this situation a few years back and went back and forth. She took the interview, got the job, told the first one nevermind, and has been happier with her work than ever before in her career (and, after a year, making more than double what she had ever made).

I would. It may not make a difference since a phone interview is pretty early in the process but if they really want you, it will push them a little keep things going.

I respectfully disagree with 14:47, I would do the interview. Unless otherwise stated, the new job you just accepted is at-will which means you (or they) can decide it's not working out at any time for any reason. Of course there are ways to do it professionally without burning bridges. And quite frankly, OP owes nothing to her new employer. If they need to reopen their search or offer the position to their number two candidate after OP backs out, that is their problem. OP, it is your career - you have to do what makes the most sense for you. GL!

Word of caution to be careful how you proceed.

From a company perspective, you have committed and they have stopped searching for candidates. So you will burn a bridge by backing out - you probably won't ever be able to work there again because they'll keep it on file.

If the other company has any connection to the current company its not unheard of that they could find out and fire you or rescind the offer regardless of the outcome of your interview.

I, personally, would decline the interview and start at the company. If that job doesn't work out then I would re-apply to the other company or reapply in a few years. That is the professional way to handle the situation.

Do the interview. In my mid-20s I accepted a job I thought I would like and started work. Worked there one week (hated it from day one) and was called in for an interview for a job I REALLY wanted. I ended up getting the job I really wanted and LOVED it there. I almost didnt go on the interview because I thought it would be unprofessional to quit the job I just started. Boy was I glad I went on that interview anyway.

Do the interview. Trust me. If it works out, you'll get over the first job really quickly!

Go ahead and do the interview and then see what you think. Hopefully they'll make a decision quickly.
