You are not insane. Just trying too hard to be different and cool.

If you have a 2nd grader or younger, tests haven't even been given yet, so it is not yet known if a referral is needed.

If you have a 3rd grader or older, have they retaken one of the tests?

Arlington schools. Mentioned it at Parent-Teacher conference last week. DD just transfered in and didn't take any tests.

If you just transfered in, I wouldn't close any doors yet. I would do some research, find out what the program involves, and see if you are happy with the regular classes. There is no reason to hurry and there is no reason to rule it out right away either.

If your daughter is happy and is learning new things then I wouldn't worry too much.

Having transferred several times I have learned that it is always better to keep all your options open.

You're only insane for posting it here.

It's my understanding (although it is as an outsider) that Arlington County GT services are largely just differentiation within the classroom. I wouldn't think that would be too much for any kid to handle.

I didn't even know Arlington had GT.

OP: Third. Which is another thing. I didn't do G&T until middle school growing up, so not sure what the point is at the elementary grades.

My friend's child was strongly urged by the teacher to switch to the AAP center mid year.

This was an older student (4th) who transferred in from out of state and is the smartest child I have ever met.

If you won't do it on principle, because you think all G&T kids are overworked, it seems like you might be shortchanging your kid, because they aren't all overworked and it might be a great challenge for your kid.

But if you won't do it because you don't think it's the right fit for your kid, that seems very very reasonable.

It's your choice. You know your kid the best.
Do what you think is the best for for your kid.

It doesn't seem overworking for my kids so far though.

Are we insane? We don't want her overworked.
