There is some diversity in Kensington Parkwood area. It's not as apparent as greater Kensington/Wheaton/Silver Spring...but it's there!

Just in case you're considering it, we live on the other side of Kensington, which sends kids to Oakland Terrace, a much more diverse but also terrific school. Perhaps people will not say it's the best in the county like KP but there's more to a great school than test scores.

OP here -- thanks to those who have responded so far!
We have considered moving into the college gardens school district because the IB/international aspect of the school appealed to us. We have also thought of moving to Wheaton -- we have heard good things about Oakland Terrace.
I guess our main hesitation about KP is the lack of ethnic diversity (we moved here from a large city so the lack of diversity in kensington has been a little weird for us already), and also that most other people here are significantly more wealthy than us (we live in one of the few apartment buildings in the community), and i don't want my child to be "the poor kid". not that we're poor by any means, but relatively speaking, we have less $ than others in the community. this is probably a silly reason for not going to the school, since it seems like a great school. was just curious about others' experiences.

hello! do any of you have kids at kensington parkwood elementary? if so what are your thoughts on the school? we live in the area and are trying to figure out whether to stay put for my daughter to start kindergarten there, or move elsewhere. my main concern is diversity (or lack thereof...economically, ethnically, etc.) at the school. but the arts focus sounds great and it seems like a lovely environment. would enjoy hearing thoughts of those who have their kids there.
