We just did a modest kitchen remodel (about $60,000 total cost, incl all new appliances), and we found sears to be both the most competitive price-wise but also a good place to view most makes and models in the mid to mid-upper range. All standard sizes...most of our research was then on-line.

Most places will price match, so that wasn't much of an issue.

Also i would recommend gardenweb appliance forum although they tend to be overrecommend certain products.

Where are you? I really like the Sears at Fair Oaks and also Lowes and Best Buy. Unfortunately I think you need to go to a few different places to see everything. I've used Bray and Scarf in the past... they have nice showrooms, but the guys who installed my gas range did something wrong... soon after, I smelled gas, had to call the gas company, turned out there was a leak, gas shut-off as a result, etc. This was just one bad experience though. Look at consumer reports, online reviews, and the gardenweb forum that a pp mentioned (although that particular forum does tend to focus more on high-end stuff).

No help in where to look but in picking a brand for wall ovens be due to pick a brand you will want to stick with for he life of the kitchen. I recently learned that all manufactures of wall ovens make then every so slightly different to the point where you can't replace say a GE wall oven with a Frigidaire.

We looked at Great Indoors, to check out appliances in person.

For information on different choices, I personally would not trust salespeople. They have their own agendas. We had very good luck looking at gardenweb kitchen and appliance forums, as well as online reviews on the sears site. I am happy with all of the appliances that I got for my kitchen.

We are not looking at - nor sadly can we afford - Viking/Wolf/Subzero level of appliances, but does anyone know of a store where they can help us understand if it is worth the extra money for something like Electrolux over GE/Frigidaire/etc.? I feel like Best Buy/Sears is really hit-or-miss depending on how knowledgeable the salesperson is who you luck out to get. Thanks.
