We started getting party invitations once my oldest was mobile (@7-8 mos) for 1st birthday parties. It was awesome and we did it in turn. It allowed us to make friends and get to know the families who our babies were spending their days with. Don't feel odd about it. People will decide to come or not. It will be their decision.

If you do go through with the party, remember to have a treat for the babies who are not ready to eat cake yet but know about food

Why not say what you said here - that you'd like to get together and meet the other parents? We just did a small family party for our daughter's first birthday and brought in cupcakes for her teachers, but I think it's nice you want to invite the other little ones in your daughter's class.

Most people I know (including me) did not do 1 yr birthday parties. We just did a family one. That said, I've been invited to a couple, and I do not think its odd or anything.

Especially if you do a no-gift party, then it's low-pressure.

What is the protocol for first birthday invites in the infant room at daycare?

I would like to invite my child's classmates to a party, but I don't want people to feel oddly about it. It's mainly because I know parents are all so rushed on the week days and it might be nice to get together and meet one another. I'd be willing to write no gifts or whatever on the invite. What do people think?
