Talk about derogatory names, they actually used to call them the Washington Senators!

Do you honestly believe that people buying tickets to a Redskins game are cognizant of or intent on supporting a racist organization? I think the name of the team should certainly be changed, but that does not mean that the organization itself in 2011 practices racism, and it does not mean that a ticket buyer is actively supporting a "racist organizaion". Do you thoroughly research every company that you but products form to make sure they follow your pure ideals in all of theor hiring, advertising and business practices? I am not a Redskins fan at all by the way, and I have never purchased a ticket or anything else form the team, but I think your comparison of this to Perry's situation is silly.

I absolutely think that the name of the local football team is comparable to the name of Perry's hunting camp. You probably don't consider the team's name a big deal. Perry probably didn't consider the name of his camp to be a big deal either. After all, that was it's traditional name. Why change tradition? Perry probably no more thought his leasing that camp was racist then people buying tickets think that is racist. I absolutely think it is hypocritical to be critical of one but not the other.

It was a case that started as a petition in 1992 and was concluded in a Supreme Court case in 2009. During the entire process, it was covered in the local papers. I think anyone living in DC during that time period should be reasonably aware. So yes, I think people are cognizant. I think they believe that the name is "no big deal". But that attitude probably stems from the fact that American Indians are such a small part of our population that their civil rights issues do not stand out. I'm not sure that makes it any less wrong.

It's not too surprising that Texas lawmakers and lobbyists entertained at "Camp Perry" didn't want to go on the record about the offensive name/sign. Here's something from yesterday's NY Times:

"One influential Houston Republican explained to me that the country-club set “thinks Perry is a great guy, but as far as having the intelligence to lead the country, there’s just no way.” That’s why many other Republicans down here find Mitt Romney to be a better bet than another cowboy-booted, g-droppin’ governor. But given Perry’s reputation for vindictiveness, these Republican apostates are still most comfortable criticizing him from the shadows. As the same Houston power broker said of a recent Romney fund-raising event, “I had someone else pay for me to go, because I didn’t want people to know I was there.” "

A rock in Texas on leased land at an entrance Perry didn't use with seven anonymous sources to back up their claim. Definitely Pulitzer coming for this one. Oh the investigative talent!!

Nice try. If you think this is the same, you are off your rocker.

Well gosh you found an article that quoted sources (probably anonymous) so I guess that proves that Perry Whitewashed the whole thing and is therefore a scary racist.

“Ever since, any time I ever saw the rock it was painted over,” Perry said.

But the Washington Post spoke with seven anonymous sources who had different recollections, saying they saw the rock with the racial slur on the property during the span that Perry leased the hunting grounds.

Good job Washington Post, along those lines, I'll go out and find 10 sources that say my cat is more intelligent than Joe Biden. My prediction is that this will all have about as much traction as Bush's faked national guard papers.

Or Obama's birth certificate. Oh wait, you guys kept that going for years...

You are missing the point entirely. You have not financially supported anyone who owns slaves.

That makes him and his family culpapble of contributing to the financial health of a racist organization in my book. I would certainly not have leased a property named this, thereby helping financial support such a organization, charity or no. he used that property just as much as his parents, so he is just as liable.

This story is barly receiving the public outcry that it deserves. It is disgusting that a man like this is ruuning for President of our nation!!!
