OP, I don't want your dirt and mud tracked through my house. Don't come over unless you have socks on or your feet are presentable.

I grew up removing my shoes, and still remove my shoes at my own home. Every house I've visited has shoes at the door and hosts with their shoes off so I remove them there too.

You may be fine with tracking dirt, mud, etc in your home. We leave it at the door. Much easier on me, and makes for a much cleaner house.

And no, I would never clip my toenails in someone else's home in front of them (WTF?).

That said - I don't force people to take their shoes off when they come over. Common courtesy leads most of them to do it though, especially if it's rainy or muddy. Of course if you have a reason to leave your shoes on (such as a medical reason) I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Now enough with the shoes threads. Seriously.

We take our shoes off in the house. Otherwise all the crap from outside is tracked in and all over the carpets (mud esp with all the rain we have had). Now that is gross. We wear our socks and/or slippers around the house. I do ask ppl to take their shoes off when they come in (but if having a party or large get together I do not). OP, I assume you do not wear socks and your feet sweat. So wear slippers if bare feet gross you out.

OMG please stop starting more threads about shoes in the house! Do what you want and don't worry about everyone else!

My kid doesn't crawl around my office floor, so it's not necessary to take them off there. I also work in a hospital, so there's no way I'm wearing my shoes around the house. I'm all for not sterilizing their environment (DC has eating a cheerio or 2 off the floor), but our carpets/floors stay significantly cleaner now that we don't wear shoes around the house. Our neighbors also fertilize their lawn and I don't won't those chemicals in my house - those little pellets have a way of drifting over.

Yes, and this is why the Asians are MUCH cleaner and civilized than us. We are filthy filthy filthy.

No shoes house. No desire to have the filth of city streets inside our home. It is pretty much along the same lines as taking a poop and not washing your hands.

How many germs do people track into their home on their shoes?

People assume that if you can’t see visible dirt then you’re OK, but there’s so much invisible dirt that people obviously can’t see. OP here. Not in my house you don't take off your shoes! How many of you take off your shoes at the office? None? Didn't think so. P.S. Kids need dirt, just wait until they get older.

We also take shoes off in the house, but then we put on slippers/flip-flops that are for house use only. I always offer to take my shoes off at someone's house, but I go by their rules - if they wear shoes, then I will.

Not sure what guests you are having that would do that sort of stuff, but it sounds like your guests need better manners!

Exactly this! Especially since my 7 mo is just learning to crawl. So gross. It's one thing if you have shoes specifically for wearing inside the house but if you wear your outside shoes in your house, that's just gross.

We wear our shoes in the house and I am flabbergasted when someone takes off their shoes and walks around with dirty toenails and smelly feet. It is particularly off-putting when they prop their feet on my dining room table, during or after dinner, and start clipping their toenails. Socks with holes in them are also gross. Please keep your shoes on.
