How do you prepared your child for this test.

Who can keep track. They change the curriculum every other year or so.

For some reason, that link appears to be broken now, but I have the hard copy so I looked it up for you. 223 corresponds to more than 99 percentile for 3rd grades and 95 percentile for 4th grades. Granted these are national averages, MoCo averages should be better than these. But still, your child is doing good.

My second grader gave me a score couple of weeks ago. Then two days ago he said, he took the test again and gave me another score. Does anybody know why they would take two tests?

I can't find the document. Any link or something I could click to online?

15:03 here. 223 for first grade is very good. To see your percentile, look for MAP-M topic in this forum. Someone posted a document over there. Scroll down to the end of the document to see the percentiles.

It's the MAP-M - an assessment test similar to the MAP-R he just took for reading. They are doing a pilot program for it. Presumably we will get notification of our child's outcome once the teacher finishes with everyone, just like with MAP-R.

Our principal never seems to inform us of these things. I often hear about this stuff through the grapevine through my kids.

Yes, our 2nd grader told us about this as well. We also received a note from the school.

Yes, they sent home a note about this from our school (appreciate our principal always keeping us informed). Also, my kid told me they had a practice session in the computer lab last week.

Here's what the note said:

"This year our school is participating in the pilot of a new mathematics assessment that is under consideration for inclusion in MCPS asessment program. The Measures of Academic Progress-Primary Grades (MAP-P) complements the Measures of Academic Progress-Reading (MAP-R) that we currently administer two to three times per year in grades 3-5.

The Map-P assessment is computerized. The assessment is read aloud to students and consists of multiple choice items that are adjusted in difficulty based on each student's response to test questions. The test can measure student academic growth over time, independent of grade level or age. MAP-P provides one data point used among many others to plan meaningful instruction for your child.

Since the purpose of this assessment is to measure your child's growth over time and we are piloting this assessment, the data for this school year is only being used for exploratory purposes. Your child's scores will not be sent home, and they will not be used to determine grades or placement for a mathematics course."
