PP who said better to make your own: recipe please!

Not the PP, but an Indian who loves to cook. I use the following recipe:

1 tsp whole black pepper
1 tsp whole cloves
1 tsp whole black cardamom seeds
½ tsp whole green cardamom seeds
2 inch piece of cinnamon (broken into smaller pieces)

Roast the above whole spices in a dry pan on slow heat until you can smell a nice aroma. Do not burn the spices (heat should be low). Let the spices cool down. Grind the spices in a coffee grinder to form a very fine powder and store it in an airtight glass jar.

In addition to the other recs, you can get it at Cost Plus World Market and Trader Joes. Very cheaply too.

Most supermarkets will have it, but probably cheaper at an ethnic or natural grocery store.

Any Indian store. Google halal or Indian store in your areA and you will find something near you.

International markets usually carry it. Even Shopper's on New Hampshire may have it--they have a lot of international foods.

A friend just gave me a recipe that calls for garam masala. Where would I buy this? I'm in Bethesda near the DC border.

Thank you!
