This data is for Spring 2011. I think is is always advisable to check with both schools (leaving/receiving). Might even be more helpful for your mom to go into her neighborhood school and express "I will be keeping my grandchild after school next year, and hoped we would be able to send him/her to this school next fall". With pupil placement, the neighborhood school has to release you, and the receiving school has to accept you. The other issue with pupil placement is that you have to reapply every year, so, there is a chance you could send your child for one year, but not the next. Something to consider.

I have a number of friends who somehow were able to transfer into red light schools (for various reasons).

I think your chances would be better at a school that does not have an AAP center, as those schools receive a higher amount of requests for younger siblings to attend with older siblings who are in the AAP center, though this too, is far from guaranteed.

Yes. One child is in an AAP center. I received approval from my youngest's base school principal and the AAP center principal to transfer, as there were plenty of available spaces in that particular grade at the center school. The AAP center forwarded the approved request to the district, which declined the transfer due to the school being red-lighted.

Correct. I think the only provision for a student to be pupil placed at a "closed" school is for an FCPS employee, but I am not certain if even that option is available.

Even if there is plenty of room in a particular grade, the district might still veto the transfer if the school is red-lighted.

Please only answer this question if you know the answer. i also don't want haters posting either. I just want some help here. Does anyone know if it's possible to get pupil placement permission if your kid goes to after school care at a grandparents house? For example, if my kids go to my mother's house after school, can they go to elementary school that is close to her instead of the one they are supposed to go to? I knew someone who did this, but it was about 10 years ago. Is this something that FCPS still allows? thanks!
