Subject: Why You Guys Don't Like Volkswagen?
We have two and love them, especially the 2001 Jetta.
Yes, they are expensive to fix, but they drive better than the cheaper Japanese ones, so maybe that's what it costs to run a better car.

Do people really think this? All dealerships are expensive. As with any car, if you have a competent mechanic with the right tools there is no need to waste your money at the dealership. I've also heard the vw's coming out of the Mexico factory have many issues. Still wouldn't mind owning a TDI for the mpg's.

The target demographic may be different than other countries...here VW is more like an apple/mac type of brand, e.g. trendy, urban, hip...look at the US ad campaigns...
Not to mention their North American headquarters is in Herndon.

OP- doesn't make sense...I would say the DC area is a bigger VW market than most in the US. VWs are really popular here w/ yuppies, young professional families etc....plenty of jettas, golfs, tauregs etc. around Arlington where I am...

VWs aren't super cheap here, actually more expensive than comparable Hondas and Toyotas - maybe that's why? I've noticed that they are really popular in CA.

According to the AP, VW sales rose 20.9% in the US in 2010. China and India are driving much of VWs growth. I'm sure there are sales figures available for the US vs. your home country if you want to compare.
I have owned a beetle, jetta and passat but do not have a VW now. But it seems like they are everywhere.

What are you talking about? There is a huge VW niche in the US, especially in California.
There may not be a lot in the DC metro area, but DC does not speak for the rest of the country.
