if you don't like what you hear, then why are you seeking advice from a group of random people that you know nothing about?

would you trust your child to be cared for by a total stranger?

this is just bad parenting if you ask me.

yeah, common sense can't be found on the internet.

Then why should we listen to you?

never said you should. just recommended that maybe you should think for yourself.

I often wonder...is there just one asshat trolling on all the threads, or multiple?

A large bottle of it. Applying sand in the wind on the beach can be challenging.
We are going with our 20 mth old this weekend, but he has been going to the beach since he was about 6 mths old and loves it. He'll play in the sand for hours (same as at home in a sandbox). This will be our first time in a hotel with him in our room. I plan on putting him to bed and sitting in the hallway drinking a cold beer until he goes to sleep. Then we can sneak in and turn the TV on quietly.

we are going to the beach this weekend through labor day with our 7-month old. house is right on the beach, we have a blow up pool for him - will fill with some water/toys/both, and an umbrella... best thing we are taking with us - grandparents.

We bought a $3 tiny inflatable pool, just big enough for our DD to sit up in and splash around. We filled it with fresh water, put it under an umbrella, and threw in some bath toys. That bought us about 20 minutes at a time.

Babies eat a lot of sand. Just make sure you have a very large blanket and a lot of toys. I enjoyed taking my babies to the beach but there is no such thing as a vacation at that age!

OP here -- Thanks for the warnings! I certainly didn't expect to lounge all day in the hot sun while DS plays quietly in sand as I read my trash mag and consume a 12-pack... If he gets fussy, we can hang by the pool or go for a walk. It's just for 2 days, and we can drive back home whenever.

Visited the beach recently with a baby about this age, and he spent about a total of an hour or so a the beach but much more time in the pool in a little boat. Most of the time, baby was indoors, and at least one parent was on duty. Luckily we were in a house so the parents could put him down for a nap or for the night in a bedroom and then have a little time to themselves. Honestly, what you're planning doesn't sound like a vacation for you OR the baby!

How/where did your little one nap while on the beach?

Also, we are staying at a hotel in a standard room. (Suites aren't available.) He goes down around 630/700 every night...DH and I go to bed around 10/1030. How did other parents handle this? Did you just keep the lights off and whisper in the dark? LOL

Thanks!

Not a great age for the beach. You can sit in the bathroom and drink a bottle of wine!

I just took my 7-mo old to the beach and it turned out she was afraid of the ocean and hated the sand. So she really did not enjoy it that much b/c I had to hold her most of the time (to keep her from getting completely covered in sand) and she wanted to get down and play, but every time I put her down, she was unhappy b/c she didn't like the sand.

I think "dumping all his toys on a blanket and letting him roll around" will be good for about 10 minutes until everything is covered with sand and he has sand in his mouth and all over his face.

After our first day on the beach, I brought the stroller on the other days so the baby had someplace to sit that was up & out of the sand. She ended up sleeping in the stroller under an umbrella for a little bit. But our longest beach day with her was about 3 hrs. The other days I had her there for about an hour before she really needed to leave. My husband stayed with the other kids.

We also had an inflatable boat for the bigger kids to use, and I put some water in that and let her sit in it and that was about the most fun she had on the beach b/c it was like a tiny swimming pool for her.

Other babies love the sand and the waves and will stay all day. Mine didn't. I guess you won't know until you get there.
