The public schools are very good in fairfax county. So there isn't that much choice for private schools. DC and lower montgomery county has a lot more choice.

Hunter Mill Country Day is a preschool, so it won't fit OP's needs.

Read the posts, a parent should get all of the information offered, but I highly recommend that you also visit the school. Base your decision on what is right for your family and your child. My DC received a great education at Westminster, but I agree it might not be what you are looking for.

pp, agree iwith your commentary for sure. Someone who has lived in Fairfax for 30+ years by this point in time either has had children matriculate through the systems (whcih have all changed significantly) or never had any kids to begin with. Not sure how anyone can make such an irresponsbile (irrational is probably more appropraite) statement without regard to any facts concerning the prviate schools N. Va. They all can't be as bad as that dumb statement would suggest. But, in case we have doubts, I suppose we could ask some of the graduates from top colleges (oh yes...some "Ivies" as well..) how they fared with their private high school educations in Fairfax County.

Wow PP, where did you get your information? Are you sure you're not talking about schools for children with special needs or ADHD? When is the last time you visited Congressional, Flint Hill or Nysmith?

The public schools are very good in Fairfax county so there is little incentive to use private and I would be careful. The privates are usually loaded with boys who needed "a smaller classroom and personal attention" in other words they are ADHD and their behavior is terrible.

I think Langley has a pretty good exmissions record.

There are also Green Hedges and Hunter Mill Country Day School in Vienna, and Merritt in Fairfax.

Do adults actually say this? Is it because Flint Hill is better at sports but less competitive than Potomac? Curious because we'll be looking at FH/Langley/Potomac this year.

3rd grade is a great time to start Westminster. Depending on where you are in Fairfax, St Stephen's and St Agnes might be a doable commute. Same goes for Pinecrest and Burgundy Day. You also might want to look at Green Hedges in Vienna. Good luck!

Definitely check out The Congressional Schools of Virginia. Many people have been very happy with the challenging and accelerated curriculum. Good Luck!
