This may be true. But if so, why go to the expense and time to do it?

I think it's so they can say they are complying with state regs when in reality they are not.

Hi - I had the same question - you can ask the testing coordinator at your school or someone at the Montgomery County Office of Accelerated and Enriched Instruction to convert the raw score into a percentile for you. I must have wasted 2 hours on google trying to find a chart that made the conversions... but when I asked someone in the AEI office they gave me the answer right away.

Our letter stated:

Raven Results
The target score for identification is at the 75% percentile, based on a child's age at the time of testing
[and then provided the ages/scores]

In View Results
The target score for Grade 2 and 3 students is at the 80th national percentile based on a child's age at time of testing
[and then provided the numerical scores for the three scored categories]

we haven't gotten these yet. should i ask the school when they are being sent out?

There is no GT program. It is a complete and utter lie. Your child will see no differences in services at all.

There are GT Centers for 4th and 5th grade but that's a different application process.

I agree, it is completely confusing, but this might help put the # into perspective a bit.

Did your letter say what the benchmark was? For instance was it the top 75%, 80%, top 2%?? How did they determine what the "benchmark". In the Inview test they gave us a percentile rather than a raw score, and then told us the benchmark was 80%; however, for the Raven they gave us a raw score but didn't tell us what determined where they set their benchmark.

Our form letter gave the Raven Raw Score and the child's age (when they took the test), then there was a code that said there were benchmarks associated with the test (based on age). So in the box beneath the raw score, there should be a Raven age/score correlation which says, for ex., 7/39, 7.5/41 etc. So, a 7 year old would need a raw score of 39 to meet the designated benchmark.

There was a letter and a full report explaning all the Terra Nova scores. Why don't they do something similiar with the Inview and Raven? Does the administration think that we parents are too dumb to understand? What are they hiding? So frustrating!

I think that MCPS has done a bizarrely incomplete job of explaining the Inview and Raven testing and scores.

I have the same question. The scores with no explanation do not mean too much.

Is there an independant web site or somewhere on the MCPS web site that I can go to to find out what the raw Raven test score means? We got a piece of paper that has our DC age and raw Raven score, but it is not expressed in a percentile so the number has absolutely no meaning to me.

We were told that our DC met the criteria for "advanced and enriched" instruction, but my understanding is that statement applies to at least 40% of MCPS students. I'd like to get an understanding of exactly where my child stands.
