Norbeck Country Club has various memberships Golf, Tennis, Social (Pool). The pool is nice and never crowded. There is also a poolside snack bar. The only downside is that there are no longer any diving boards in the deep end....

Is Sherwood a good elementary school? Any feedback on that area of Olney? What are different part of Oleny? I like it because it is close to Highway 220 so I can drive and park at Shady Grove Metro to go to work in downtown DC.

Our budget is $1 million. We are open to live in other parts of MoCo for good schools.

For a million dollars I would look in potomac, or bethesda. Olney is fine but if want to get anywhere like downtown or bethesda it is pretty far out.

You can walk to the school from just about anywhere in the neighborhood. There is no community pool but the neighborhood backs up to Norbeck Country Club, which has social memberships, and an active swim team. Very family oriented (neighborhood and country club) and houses that range from the mid $400's to about $700k with 1/2 acre plots of land....

What HS does this feed into? We were thinking of this neighborhood. I thought the country club was just golf? I didn't see or know it had a pool?

I also live near Cashell and agree it is fabulous school. It feeds into Magruder HS. We had the social membership at Norbeck Country Club last year and there is definately a swimming pool and swim team. We're also not far from the Montgomery County Olney Indoor Pool - which is really a nice pool.

Sherwood elementary is fantastic. Caring, honest teachers. I don't know much about new Principal but certainly there has been no change in the positive environment that Perlett created. If you can bribe your way into Wainwrights class I highly encourage it. We live on Norbeck but use to live in Hallowell. Perfect for young families. We still cheat our way into their Halloween which is almost unanimously supported. The swim club use to be a great club but recently has fallen away due to lack of fun. With the right leadership it would be great again.

Brooke Grove and Sherwood are also Olney elementary schools. Someone on DCUM keeps forgetting to mention those.

What's your price range? We live in the Olney/Brookeville area --- we bought here after looking at pretty much every neighborhood for 2+ years, so I'm pretty familiar with the various neighborhoods and I could provide some pros and cons, etc. Just post back with your price range. And are you set on any schools? Belmont? Greenwood? Olney? (these are all elem schools)

do you mean sherwood elementary or sherwood HS? most kids in olney go to sherwood HS, but a few neighborhoods go to Macgruder. there are a handful of elementary schools. some go to rosa parks middle school and some to farquhar.

some neighborhoods with swim teams are: lake hallowell, manor oaks, james creek, olney mill (?) and tanterra. each pool and team has a different feel though. i don't have personal experience with any of the swim teams.

My SIL lives in Olney Mills and loves it there--bigger lots, mixture of split levels, split foyers, ramblers and a few colonials, nice parks. Don't know too much about Sherwood except that Rock and Roll Revival is a huge event the school has done consistently (and well) for many years.
