Another option is to get the car seat attachement - only $60 - and it functions like a bassinet. We love this for our DD and it makes traveling from car to walk and back again really easy. I like that I can see DD. The attachment allows baby to face you much like the bassinet.

IMO the car seat attachment is the way to go.

Do any local stores like BRU or bbB carry the new compact bassinet pram? I'd like to check it out. Seems like the best option for a winter baby, since we don't use our car very often. Anyone else have reviews of the Baby Jogger Compact Bassinet Pram?

We used the bassinet until DD was 6 months!!!!

It was our travel bed and stroller. So much easier than transferring the baby after a walk and much lighter than a pack n play.

Not to mention the fact that the baby faces you during the walks.

I think bassinet attachments on strollers are a waste.I always felt weird about having my son in the car seat for walks, but he liked it that way. Babies like being snug in the car seat versus bopping around in the bassinet. Once they are bigger they don't want to lie flat on their backs when on walks. If your child is already 5 weeks then I think at most you will get a month out of a bassinet.

I just looked at it in the store so no actual use, but I wasn't excited about how it attached (in contrast to how a bassinet like the UppaBaby Vista attaches). It seemed sort of squished into the seat in a way that made me think their designers thought "hey, we have to get a bassinet to work somehow." I'm not sure if you can take the fabric off the main seat which might make it work better (and maybe they just didn't do it in the store?) but it didn't convince me that it was needed.

I'd just get a snugseat accessory and use the stroller from the beginning, I think. It has a pretty flat recline.

Happened to read this, and am the original PP you quoted who said they used it right away. I believe at first we used a Snuzzler that we had around from #1 (one of those fuzzy white things), though I'm pretty sure we didn't really need anything, and you could certainly use blankets to get the same effect.

We also had a Snap 'N Go for #1 (didn't get the City Mini until #1 was 7 months) and that worked fine, though in retrospect I could tell it didn't push as well as a nicer stroller. But we were living in Adams Morgan and I pushed my winter baby all over DC in the Snap 'N Go. Though winter baby is key to that - the car seat can get HOT, which is why we didn't use it much with #2 who was a late spring baby.

It has been a few months since any replies were posted to this feed, so I am posting a reply to refresh.

We do not use our car very frequently so it seems like the bassinet would be better to use on walks in the early months, before baby is big enough to sit in the actual seat. There are now two bassinet/prams for the City Mini. One is listed as Baby Jogger Compact Pram Bassinet (see link: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Jogger-Compact-Pram-Bassinet/dp/B004H7ZTO4/ref=sr_1_3?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1317157555&sr=1-3) and one is the Baby Jogger Bassinet (see link: http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Jogger-J8P40-Bassinet-Black/dp/B001IDNRX0/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1317157555&sr=1-1) The compact version is almost $100 cheaper!

Wondering if any moms or dads have used this for their babies and if so, do they recommend?

Appreciate any thoughts or feedback!

Yes! Baby Jogger is coming out with a brand new bassinet for the City Mini 2011 for almost half the price as the previous one - around 159, so far I saw it on the Baby Jogger website and on the Pish Posh Baby website.
It looks great, and I think we will use it for the stroller and as a bassinet/moses basket.

We had the bassinet but ended up not using it. If we were going somewhere by car, she'd fall asleep in the car seat and we'd have to WAKE HER UP to put her in the bassinet. Then she'd scream. We learned fast to let sleeping babies lie. It was just easier to put her car seat onto the car seat adaptor, and when we went on long trips, it was easier to just bring car seat and stroller instead of introducing another accessory.

If you get a good quality car seat, there's nothing to worry about with her sitting in it for a while, even a long while. So say the nurses at the hospital I delivered at, at least.

Personally I don't think it's necessary. I'll admit our baby was big (9.5+ at birth), but developmentally she was still a newborn, and since it essentially has a full recline, we were able to put her straight in the City Mini at a week. The carseat adaptor is great because it means you can transfer a sleeping child, but if you're going to take the child out of their carseat anyway, you could just put them into the stroller. And since ANY added component makes dealing with the stroller more difficult, I'm all for paring down as much as possible.

Of course, the downside is the baby isn't facing you that way, and if you're planning to go for really long walks that may be important to you.

I have an Uppa so it came with the bassinet, but yes, I used it all the time and loved it. We had a Snap n Go we kept in the car for quick trips, but real walks were always in the bassinet and it just seemed so much better and more comfortable for baby. He also slept in it overnight for weekends away for the first three months.

Has anyone used the bassinet attachement? I'm considering buying it but want to know if it's worth the $300 price tag. I have the car seat adaptor but hate to think LO will be in the car seat for hours. LO is 5 weeks old so if I buy the bassinet, I'll get good use out of it for a few months now that it's warm out. Any advice?
