Did that bother you that minority faculty members made more money?

14:47 here. No, I wasn't saying white families don't receive financial aid, nor was I saying it's based strictly on diversity. Not at all. But I think most independent schools here participate in the Black Student Fund and Latino Student Fund. Is it surprising that consideration is given to diversity in awarding financial aid? Colleges and universities give even more consideration to this and often have special funding for racial/ethnically diverse applicants, especially in grad school. In fact, the universities where I've taught offer higher salaries to minority faculty members in an effort to increase minority representation on their faculties. Am I spilling the beans here?

21:02, I think it's fantastic that you got financial aid!

That's great news. Kudos to the school for making that possible. How closely did they follow the recommendation of the NAIS financial aid family report?

I am the posters whose family receives aid we not black of latino. We decided to apply and got aid no special perks. So I guess our aid was based upon income only not diversity.

Financial aid is related to diversity, not strictly income level? I find that strange.

PP, do you receive aid through the Black Student Fund or Latino fund? In other words, OP, you need to ask if diversity is involved.

What sort of income can a family make and still qualify for some sort of financial aid at local private schools, both elementary and up? We are "well-off" (as compared to most families, I suppose, but certainly would not be considered wealthy in the DC area) but paying for multiple private school tuitions for DD and soon-to-arrive DB would be a very tough stretch for us should we go that route. Just wondering if we should have any hope of receiving tuition assistance.
