Any recent info from parents whose child has gotten a spot and what # on the wait list they have? Also what is considered a "good number"? Are certain immersion programs harder to get into than others? Any info would be greatly appreciated. We are trying to decide between many options including private school. Thanks.

We got a call on Friday (May 21 2012) for the French Immersion--my son was #8 on the waitlist

Followup: I just heard moments ago that my child (waitlist 10) has a spot in Sligo Creek/French Immersion. So at least one list is moving along...

The Montgomery County coordinator told me last week that in general, the majority of spots will be accepted (and wait list positions offered) by the end of the school year (early June).

However he said if you are taking a long trip over the summer make sure they have your cell number (and not your home number) on file if they need to get in touch w/ you. The letter you got in April, telling you they received your application, should show the contact info they have for you.

I know a few people offered spots over the summer last year... One neighbor (whose child was wait listed at #7 in a French program) was contacted in mid-June.

I don't think they send out a second round. When we got in off the waitlist, it was via a phone call offering us the slot (and giving us a short time--maybe a week?--to decide).

Does anyone know when they start to send out the second round? Were the people that were initially accepted suppose to respond by last Friday? TIA.

FWIW I heard that at Sligo Creek ES (French immersion) last year the waitlist got to number 13, and the year before it got to 24.
(My child drew #10 for Sligo Creek and I'm crossing my fingers so hard it hurts.)
Good luck.

The year before last DC was in the 20s for Rolling Terrace and got off the waiting list just before Labor Day. It's very possible you'll hear something before then. Good luck.

High teens is not impossible, especially for Rolling Terrace.

Last year my son was #29 on the waitlist for Maryvale French Immersion and he got in off the waitlist in mid-October. I know at least one other child got in after him who had a number in the 30s. I don't know how common that is at other schools, though. Good luck-- we love the language immersion program, it was definitely worth the wait!

My son is on the wait list for Rolling Terrace ES Spanish program, with a number in the high teens. Wondering how his chances are at getting in. Can others share their experience (what number you drew for an immersion program, whether you got in, and when)?
