FYI-Not getting a bill doesn't mean that you DON'T owe the money. Especially if you used the service.
I am sure they are happy to keep taking your check but since they have never asked for payment did you ever once stop and think that maybe some policy may have changed after you signed the contract and they didn't tell you. This is the DC public school system afterall so I wouldn't count on them to be super organized.
I don't think anyone should just start randomly paying. If they bill at the end of the year for the whole year, well, then they do. so what?

You really need to go pay. I hope they send you the bill for the entire year at the end of the year.

This makes no sense to me. Isn't it a school-by-school issue?? JED, Wonders at Mann, Murch Extended Day, etc. -- isn't it up to the schools??

I might be wrong, but I am pretty sure that the schools that are not billing for aftercare are not doing so because they are Title 1 and are getting funds that are allocated to Title 1 schools to provide this as a service. I wouldn't suggest that people just go to their schools and drop off a check for aftercare, as many Title 1 schools might not have a way to process this money. If I am wrong, I am sure someone will point it out here, but I thin that is the deal.

It's a shame that people are not paying for aftercare which may result in others losing the opportunity to have aftercare due to budget cuts. Hopefully, outside aftercare will become the norm because at least they will keep track of who is paying!

DCPS aftercare is incredibly disorganized - they have no idea who has paid and who hasn't at my DS's school. You also have to pay by money order which is a huge pain.

That's not so outrageous. It's probably the equivalent of qualifying for Free and Reduced Price Meals. If their parents are working and their income is below the poverty level, the city has decided it is worthwhile for them to have a safe place to be until a caretaker gets home. I can get on board with that.
