It's a grocery store cake. Fine, enjoyed by most, not gourmet.

I'm also thinking about getting a cake from harris teeter and wanted to see if anyone had any recent experiences. I'm thinking about ordering one from the location here in DC. Thanks!

We've gotten two cakes from the HT on Darnestown Road in MD. (The most recent one was two years ago.) We went there because we had heard their cakes were good and we also wanted specific drawings and colors for the decorations. The first year I showed the decorator the colors and designs in the plates and napkins and she drew coordinating designs on the cake. The second year she transformed my horrible nature sketch into something really cute and whimsical on the cake. Choose their cream cheese frosting if you want something less sweet. The cakes were made and decorated that morning and I was surprised at how good they were, even compared to some fancy cake places where we've spent a lot more.

I prefer Giant, but HT is better than safeway.

I agree - some of the employees behind the bakery counter at HT in Rockville are down right rude.

We ordered a yellow cake with strawberries and whipped cream icing from the North Bethesda Harris Teeter. The cake was delicious, and we were very happy with how attractive it was. The baker in charge at the time (this was 2 years ago) was very kind and provided good customer service. The other people at the bakery weren't so great with customer service.
