I hope so. I started with her this year in the hopes that if I have a second baby I can VBAC with her practice! I hope to catch one of the Meet the Midwives session. (Pun not intended, but enjoyed!).

I thought about that, but figured they would notice what I was doing!

I think they take 30people a month without regard to delivery date and because you are the last day of the month the 30 were already taken. If you call back and say that you were mistaken and your due date is the 1st of August I'll bet you get in.

In any case, between miscarriages, people moving, and complications arising resulting ina switch of a patient to the OBs, I'd bet you get off the waitlist.

Just a guess, but they probably try not to let the caseload get skewed towards any part of the month since that could mean crazy busy multiple deliveries at the same time...

I'm in the latter half of a month (but not by much- June 18th) and I didn't have a problem getting in. Then again, I called at 8dpo (2nd day with a positive test). I had a previous appt with Whitney (annual exam/preconception)- I don't think that it makes a difference, but at least I could call (I wasn't aware of that call versus email rule anyway). I know that June was full by the time we went to the Meet the Midwife session when I was 6 weeks. I think they try to balance out the caseload in terms of vbacs, 1st timers and previous natural births but I'm not sure. I have heard of people getting in from the waiting list at 4, 5 and 6 months, so it definitely happens (although a bummer not to get prenatal care from them before that because they are so awesome!).

Sorry to resurrect this, but doesn't their caseload end up skewed to the beginning of the month this way? I called just 2-3 days after we got a positive pregnancy test, and could not get in for July (and we were paying attention and testing timely). My due date is July 31 -- I'm pretty sure there's no way I could have gotten in with them. Anyway, I'm on the waiting list now ... I wonder how quickly the list moves, if at all? Anyone know?

I just called a couple of days after I got my postitive test result and I got into the Sept. caseload!! If you call as soon as you know you should be ok. I was 6 weeks at my first appointment. So far I've met with Laura and she has been wonderful.

You should go to the next "Meet the Midwife" event. I think (though am not positive) that it's a prerequisite for getting into the practice. I went while I was TTC and emailed (can't call until you're in the practice) to get into the practice as soon as I got a positive test. I was accepted into the practice right away. They are also going to be bringing on more midwives, so even those who are waitlisted have a good shot at getting off if their due date isn't for a while.

I LOVE the practice btw.

You should have no problem if you call in the first few weeks, probably even fine in month 2. They are usually full about 6-7 months out.

Just call as soon as you get a positive test result. I think they don't fill up for a month or two, but a lot of people are looking to switch later in the pregnancy which is why there's a waiting list. I think right now they are taking 10 deliveries per month.

We're still TTY, and our first choice is the GWU midwives (Whitney Pringer's group). I've heard that they fill up quickly. Any idea what the odds of getting a spot would be if I contact them as soon as we know we're pregnant? I ask because it will affect whether I look into find a back up practice while TTC. Thanks!
