It sounds like we're both in the same daycare - downtown Bethesda? I complained about how it was handled and it fell on deaf ears.

Ours went up 5% across the board(every room) just about every other year. We are in our last year. No increase this year. Also our daycare rates drop when child goes into potty training(2) and again when they get out of training (~2.5-3).

Ours went up 3% in each of the last two years. But our total cost is still down considerably because of move from infant to toddler.

5% seems pretty standard. Some seem to do the same increase each year. Others seem to skip years and then do bigger increases. But, I think you'd be safe to expect around 5% each year.

$10 - $15/week in the infant/under two's area. Think this year's two's tuition is $6.50 a week higher than last year.

Wow, I am relieved... we've been at our center over a year and now have two kids there and we haven't had an increase. I guess I should consider myself lucky!

Our DD started in Dec. '09, so it really sucked to be hit with an immediate increase one month in. I think mine went up 6% in 2010 but will only rise 4% in the coming year. DD's only 14 mos, so we haven't reached the lower rate yet, but it should kick in at 18 mos.

Um. . . the private sector employee over on the Fed Pay Freeze thread has said repeatedly that inflation is 0% this year. She said that living expenses are not increasing. Don't you all know that?? Clearly daycare costs aren't going to go up in a "0% inflation environment."

Mine just went up 5% this past year. (Started in April '10, new rates took effect Sept '10.)

My costs have not gone down as my daughter has moved up into the less expensive classes b/c the center kept hiking up their rates.
Full time care
Infant/1yr room: 2008 $330/week (current $375)
2yr: 2009 $330/week because the prices hiked
Sr. 2s: 2010 $317/week which will probably go up again in the spring.

In addition I have to pay an annual registration fee of $75 (early) or $100 if I miss the deadline. We're working on a second which means we get a 10% discount on the cheaper tuition.

We've had odd jumps and freezes in tuition over the past 4 years.

My infant/toddler care costs at a large, chain center:

$375 a week in 2007
$400 a week in 2008

That's a 6-7% increase.

Then it fell dramatically because he moved into the 2s, with a higher ratio.

Our center did not increase tuition costs in 2009 because of the recession.

In my son's 3s class, it went from $287 a week to $293 a week. So about a 2% increase. I think if the recession had not hit, it would have been about a 5% increase yearly.

The infant room has gone up about 20% total over the 3 years we've been at our daycare. But since the kids transition up to older age rooms which cost less, the actual costs (for each child) for have been decreasing.

Just wondering what to expect in terms of daycare tuition increases year-over-year. 5%? 10%?

For those of you who've been dealing with daycare for a few years, what has been your experience?
