Have you considered booking rooms or a cabin at a lodge inside Shenandoah National Park. There are 2 different sites in SNP where this is possible.

I did this once outside of a national park, thinking it would be so fun and unique.

Nope. Miserable. It's cute for photos but in reality, it's not fun. Uncomfortable beds and I really loathe the bathroom situation (communal - if you need to go in the middle of the night, you will be walking outside in the dark with your flashlight) and they weren't kept all that clean.

And they charge $$$$$ for these too. Nope, never again. Hotel all the way.

I once rented a Yurt in a yurt community in WV. It was very basic, but fun. Each yurt has one bed in it, but bathrooms, living area, and kitchen area are communal. I brought a blow up bed for my son to sleep in. I couldn't find it just now on Airbnb, but I did find this page that shows what it is. It would be fun to rent multiple yurts! One thing I remember is that I had to be somewhere for a guided tour the next morning at 9am and had planned my travel based on the address given. However the road from the mailbox up to the yurts was long and slow, so fair warning it is actually 15-20 minutes further than Maps says it is.

There’s a glamping site in Williamsburg - it should come up if you google it. Might be fun with the historical area and theme park right there.

Interested in a trip with 4-5 families where we can each rent a dome or tent in the same area. Thanks!
