Well, surely she won't write how she had solicited your murder, right? Surely an attorney, or anyone really, would advise her not to admit that in a book?

So who cares about this book. If it comes out and you are in it, and your family finds out about it, you act shocked that this woman who stalked you a bit years ago after a few booty calls wrote this. That's it.

She names your name in the book??? Usually people change the names of those they mention. Maybe you can sue her for libel.

Not sure why people think this is so unbelievable. My aunt married a low level mob person and then couldn’t ever leave because he’d beat her and have her family killed. My husband from just outside nyc’s next door neighbor was a mid level mobster from a famous family. His son was convicted as part of one of the most famous mob killings. This doesn’t seem very incredible to me especially if OP is from New York and we are talking about the 90s.

I’d just tell her. I might also reach out to the publisher and let them now that is there is any defamatory content in the book, you will be suing. Sometimes publishers will use fake names on books like this to minimize the risk of issues — if you are not yourself famous it’s not like people are buying the book for the stuff about you! So they may edit it to “a guy I was dating, let’s call him Larlo Lowlife….”
