VT admissions has gotten really unpredictable for kids with 1300 Sat and GPAs in that same range.

Michigan! I know everyone says it’s impossible OOS, but our school has had great results the past two years.

It’s not the “tippy top” kids who have gotten in from our school EA. (Those kids consistently get deferred EA + waitlisted RD + accepted in late May/early June if they stick it out on the WL.)

It’s the next tier down that tend to get in - smart kids with very high GPAs but not quite the same rigor or SAT scores. They’re the kids who are very involved with school-based ECs and the school community. Again, not the showy “start a non-profit and win every possible academic award” kids. They’re the all-around great kids who are integral to our school community and who are much more likely to go to Michigan if accepted rather than hold out for an Ivy.

I’d add Pitt for sure.

What about Ohio State? Since they seem open to the Midwest with Indiana on the list., that could be one to consider.

My kid applied to several of these as well as Pitt, Penn State, Rutgers, Tennessee, Fordham. He got into all except Fordham. Chose Delaware and loving it.

Mine has a similar profile (science major though) and some of those same schools on her list, along with Pitt. Also in consideration for likelies and targets: URI, CofC, UNC-W, Fairfield, and Providence.

Just a plug for UMass Amherst. My kid goes to one of the other colleges in the Pioneer Valley. It's a great place to go to school. She goes to parties at UMass and reports the students are friendly.

Working on our list, specifically the target/low reach section, and wondering if these schools would potentially appeal to the same type of student. Strong student, likely English major, good ECS, SAT 1300, wants medium to large school, fun social scene with good school spirit.
