We have been to one of these. But they warned us ahead of time. We're doing a make your own pizza night. Can you join us. And they served plenty to drink so it was a lot of fun.

I would have been unhappy had someone sprung it on me an hour into the evening. That's going to make for a long night.

I’m guessing you brought no wine, therefore that’s why it was limited.
Sounds like you need some manners.

NP and while I agree OP is being rude, you should know that when you bring wine as a hostess gift, that is *not* expected to be opened at that gathering and shared. Unless it’s a potluck and you offer to bring wine or are assigned to bring wine, a hostess gift of wine is for your hostess. As a gift. You shouldn’t expect it to be opened.

Make your own pizza night is fun.

I’m sorry you have no sense of fun!

Do you have kids? This sounds like something kids would like.

They enjoy that and thought you might, too.

We have friends who have us over to make pizzas sometimes. Everyone enjoys it: they make the dough and sauce and prepare the toppings, we customize it, and then cook it in their pizza oven. Presumably they thought you'd enjoy this.

OK, that was their idea of a fun night, and they wanted to include you.

I would have kept sipping my wine and said, “Oh no, I’m terrible with pizza dough, but I love that you are good with it!”

Then, if a pizza appeared, great; I’d have a slice. If none materialized, I would have stayed for a bit and enjoyed the conversation, then picked up take-out for myself on the way home.

It’s fine that they invited you over, but you don’t have to start rolling out a ball of dough just because someone puts it in front of you.

What was your hostess gift? Did you bring wine too?

Friends invited us to their house Sunday for what I thought was a dinner party. After an hour, the wife puts pizza dough in front of us and says “now you can make your own pizzas and cook them yourselves.”

Not sure if it was a play date or what but it was very strange.

Oh and only one glass of wine per guest
