There is no honor for 1st grade. Accelerated and advanced are the only two levels in 1st grade. Either you are lying or they gave you wrong options.

THIS! I started the workbooks at home with my DS in 1st grade and he is now finishing 3rd grade. We do this instead of the MCPS math homework. It is fun (for both of us), engaging, and has given him an incredibly deep foundation in math concepts. Since your kid starts at the level that fits their current skills, it allows you to go deep and also accelerate, as appropriate for your kid. It’s not a curriculum for struggling math students, but for advanced learners, it’s amazing.

Compete at 6 years old sounds ridiculous. Why add stress to it? Don’t be pushy just because it’s easy for her. It’s easy until it gets harder.

We did it in second and had a good experience. Kid is doing the honors for 3rd grade. There was algebra and it complimented school somewhat.

Life long RSM supporter and I do recommend Beast Academy until 3rd. grade. Then you can switch to RSM and it will be...algebra.

+1 Beast Academy is a lot like Russian Math

Beast Academy is much more "fun" and "cute"

we know an indian in 6th grade who is already doing multivariable calc.

Look into math competitions like Math Kangaroo, there are others but that is the first that comes to mind. The problems are more puzzles and reinforce grade level concepts. There is more thought involved in how to approach the problems and apply concepts.

I had a mathy kid, too. I strongly encourage you to focus more on enrichment and not acceleration. The further ahead your child gets, the more problems she’s likely to encounter.

We do Beast Academy.

DD (rising 1st grader) loves math and was enthusiastic about trying math classes. She complained all year about the kindergarten math being too easy (I know I know, it’s kindergarten! 🙃)
I’ve heard great things about RSM and I took her to the evaluation. She really liked it, but the 1st grade workbooks looked pretty basic to me, and it seems like a pain to drive her there every week (there’s a school 15 mins from us, which is not terrible). Is there something at this age that makes the classes worth it, or is there a curriculum we could do at home instead? (She’s too young for RSM online). I was looking at the Singapore Math workbooks.
I have a math background myself so I’d be comfortable teaching her.
