I've had good luck with Prarie Moon nursery plants.

Patuxent Nursery in Bowie, MD also has a decent selection of native plants.

Coneflowers will self seed or you can grow from seed to get more plants cheaply.

Earth Sangha is great, as long as you have a lot of patience. They really don't sell anything big (which is part of what makes their plants so affordable.) I echo the suggestion to wait until fall to plant - by June, it's too hot to get new natives established and give them the best chance of survival.

You can hire a native plant specialist to determine what will work best in your garden. That is what I did.

They run a huge spring sale and another in the fall. It is awesome, and less expensive than the garden stores.

Personally not a fan of Lauren’s Garden Service. They sold me a dead beautyberry bush a couple of springs ago (looked dead when I purchased it, Lauren insisted it would leaf), refused to consider an exchange or refund if the plant didn’t grow, which it rather decidedly did not. Sure, I can understand your telling me I did something wrong if I show up 3 mos later saying you sold me a dead plant, but have the grace to offer a replacement if we’re having the convo at time of sale and it doesn’t work out (yes, I realize I just shouldn’t have purchased it). Also doesn’t give me confidence that I recognized that the plant wasn’t going to survive and she didn’t.

There is a nursery inside the beltway in VA that sells only native plants. It seems to close in the winter. Might be in S Arlington, not sure.

I have bought from The Pollen Nation before (plugs) and been really happy. Because they do sell plants not native to my region, I verify before placing the order.

Where are you located? I go to Lauren’s Native Plant Nursery in Ellicot City. Patuxent Nursery also has a decent selection. Meadows Farms usually has a section, but they are usually cultivars and some are not native to our particular region. Still, better than going to Home Depot or whatever.

This is a rough time to plant, though - I’d wait till at least late August to plant, and then keep them watered really well until the heat fully passes.

I keep trying they all die. Joyful Butterfly mail order. Not joyful second season.

I am setting up a pollinator garden in my new house and have decided to focus on natives as much as possible. Since there is a large area to cover I’ve been looking for variety at affordable prices. I placed a small trial order from Bagley Pond Perennials in January and received my plants in mid-May. I got the 5-pack of plugs during their 20% off sale. The plants were very well grown with deep root systems, and while a few of the stems had snapped off during shipping they assured me that they would regrow from the crown or they would replace them. I got 2 varieties of butterfly weed, early and late figworts and blue vervain. I already have a bigger list for next year prepared. I will also try Prairie Moon Nursery.
