Then why are you here? Merely to abuse other parents?

Congrats on having a kid who knew how to navigate medical insurance and waivers and in-network vs out of network and all that jazz the moment they turned 18 and/or matriculated to college. Do they mind helping us out? These are tasks my husband and I still sometimes struggle with navigating through all the phone trees and red tape and 200-page legalese policy documents. It’s so wonderful your kid can do absolutely everything with no advice or support from you!

We are also a west coast family. We had good employer-based PPO insurance, so we stuck with that for the first year and got the waiver. Your student can still get on-campus services in many situations. Mine had a badly twisted ankle, was seen the same day, x-ray, no charge. This year we had a job change, so we enrolled our student in the Princeton plan. It’s also a PPO with a national network, and our west coast physicians are on it. I emailed someone at Princeton to sort out our options and they were very helpful.

Thank you! I'm hoping we're also approved!

So, with exams and graduation and everything that happened this past month, DC had no idea that there were deadlines for housing and orientation (!!). He submitted a few days late for both. Oh well, lesson learned!

I'm the original OP. We lived in DC for many years before moving internationally and then to the west coast. So I've been on dcubanmom on and off since the kids were young.

How are west coast families on DCUM?

Princeton 2030 parent here. I was approved to the parent run faceboon group a few weeks ago. The insurance info was emailed by the wchool to the parent email address last week.

The Princeton Parents page and it says members are approved by the Office of Communications. Is that the same group you joined?

Anyhow, we're a west coast family with good insurance coverage, and DC just applied for a waiver for health insurance. But I wanted to get some feedback from other families.

We have Kaiser and it is specifically called out as unacceptable on the Princeton site. However, Kaiser offers Emergency and Urgent care in NJ through Cigna so we too applied for a waiver. No idea if it will be approved.

My kid is at a different Ivy but my advice is to reach out to Princeton's Advancement office- those offices manage events including parent outreach etc and their job is to be responsive. They will point you to resources
