Is this supposed to be a group gift?

Some other ideas:
A neighborhood gift basket. I'm thinking coffee from the local shop, cookies or treats from a neighborhood bakery, local honey or jam, along with handwritten lists of "Things we'll miss doing with you," from each neighbor

Print a map of the neighborhood and have everyone sign around it with little messages, and get it framed.

A custom ornament shaped like their house, or shaped like the state they are leaving.

I'd rather have the Starbucks mug because if it's attractive I'd keep it. And if not, I'd have no guilt getting rid of it. A piece of art/framed craft is a burden if someone doesn't like it aesthetically.

Tree ornament is on par with a mug. But it would be out of season so would probably take awhile to get into the right box to ship.

Other ideas - I received a DC tote bag - I think they got it at Made in DC or Propper Topper.

I think the Old Bay and Mambo Sauce ideas are sweet as well.
+1 I'm the one that suggesed a neighborhood gift basket, and these two items would be a must!

I think it's a cute idea. Seeing that picture I thought you meant a whole case lol. But one mug is nice.

Bed Bath and Beyond used to have cheese boards with your state. Something like this https://www.etsy.com/market/washington_dc_charcuterie_board

Nobody needs more mugs. Are they moving far away? Honestly, with moving, it makes you feel like you already have too much crap. Do you really need to get them a gift?

I agree with this. I already have more mugs than I can use, but I'd much prefer to get a pretty mug with a subtle cherry blossom design than a generic Starbucks mug which feels a lot more touristy.

Do they frequent Starbucks? Do they like coffee? We need more details. If its just a random gift, I would pick something else.

PP. You could give a nice bottle of alcohol to take the edge off moving. Or a roll of that stretchy plastic wrap on a handle that movers use (going with a practical gift if they are self packing).

You don't need to give a gift.

I think the problem is that it's from Starbucks. Maybe a bottle of Mambo sauce and a jar of Old Bay?

It's an o.k. idea. There are people who really like souvenir glassware for the informal fun of it.

The women in my family collected (too many) souvenir tea towels. That's another small and sort of practical gift that isn't a burden if they don't like it.

I'd try to find a design that is aesthetically pleasing vs. pedestrian.

The most "D.C." giftable I've ever seen is "Red Tape" jewelry from the National Archives. But that has limited suitability.

Op here. Yes, the one for the city. That was my thought. It’s not that we won’t see each other again. But what do you give in this sort of situation?

Scenario: Neighbor is moving and will be renting their home. A group of neighbors are coming together to throw a going away party.

My gift idea: One of the Starbucks location mugs like the ones below for Washington D.C.

Be honest with me, is this a terrible idea? My line of thinking is something unique to the city they lived in obviously but because they will still have a house there, is it an odd choice?

If this is awful - What else is a “location” souvenir?
