My son is uncoordinated as well. We tried a gazillion different things.

No organized sports, but he loves hiking and riding his bike. There are bike clubs around the DMV that organize rides. He goes hiking regularly with friends now as a teen and start lifting weights.

Also, what about running?

Weirdly, flag football helped my kid get more focused and more coordinated. He is really prone to zoning out and issues with auditory stuff, which makes PE and sports tough on him.

This. As long as he's active in other ways, why does he need sports? It sounds like he's just not really into them.

I have this same kid. Honestly no team sports are really a good fit but we do a lot of hiking. This week we went to the Badlands and he climbed and hiked every day which was a big confidence booster.
I don’t think team sports are a necessary part of childhood. Just keeping active.

Swimming isn't going to be a good choice for an uncoordinated teen. Uncoordinated and starting earlier could have worked but uncoordinated and starting this late is unlikely to yield favorable results.

+1. Cross country, track. Fishing is a sport in some high schools.

Rock climbing and white water kayaking (there are several places that offer intro kayaking classes -- my dyspraxic kid loves it)

Does he enjoy running? I believe there are some recreational running programs/clubs where he could feel like part of a team. I feel like the City of Rockville had something. If he’s going to continue with rock climbing, fencing and scouts that already seems like plenty for a middle schooler though. It’s great he’s so active.

11 year old son is uncoordinated, but he loves to enjoy many sports if it is fun. He lacks body strength (especially lower body), persistence, patience and sometimes unfocused. He has tried many sports in ES years, all recreational & non competitive level, like swimming, basketball, soccer, table tennis, indoor rock climbing, kayaking, fishing and fencing. He is going to MS, and he says that he will stay with indoor rock climbing and fencing. He is going to stay with scout in MS, so that will continue to give him camping and some hiking experiences. I think he likes fishing, is there a thing in montgomery county that he can join?

My question is that any new team sports or activities that is recommended for his profile? He will not make it to tryouts, so anything recreational will be awesome.
