Fortunately, we planned for our rising 6th grader to attend their home MSMC school because we don’t trust MCPS. However, I warned anyone who would listen about things like this being a possibility, especially during the budget crunch.

Where did you see this? MCPS said many times that all students in consortia starting next year or earlier will be grandfathered in and allowed to stay until they finish, and that transportation will be provided. That's why they keep talking about how expensive transportation will be for the next 4 years while the grandfathered students are getting the transportation.

If this were true, why would Mullenhoz not reiterate the same message to DCC and MSMC families during the Woodward principal search process? In fact, he said the opposite!

Doesn’t say transportation will continue to be provided. Also doesn’t say how this could be affected by budget and gas prices

I never hard the word “consortia”. I heard Taylor say “regional programs” which I interpreted to mean Eastern and TP magnets

I have screenshots of Mullenholz answering my question in a zoom chat with “grades 7/8 and 9/10 will be the first to move”. Then when I replied that MSMC and DCC parents were confused and didn’t know this applied to them he wrote “a school assignment tool will be available soon across MCPS”.

This exchange was on May 4.

Also keep in mind that MCPS already offered people tbe option to move to their new school early.

And if MCPS is now changing their position that is completely unacceptable.

This issue was raised last year at a board meeting, and the answer was that current eighth graders would be able to stay at their school and graduate from there,.. You can watch the exchange starting at 4:05:25. If this hasn’t been confirmed in writing then it needs to be. https://mcpsmd.new.swagit.com/videos/353285

Nothing published that I’ve seen. We were alerted by our AP that they were just informed of this.

It means current 5th and 8th graders will have to apply for a COSA every year they want to stay at a school that’s not their home school. And transportation won’t be provided

It’s gone too.

Right, it will be gone as a choice for 9th graders/new students starting in 2027-28. But I haven't seen anything official about what happens to kids already in NEC schools that aren't their home schools, and whether transportation will go away, although I've heard speculation. Is there something published about that?

Right, but parents of rising 6th and 9th graders have been misled and confused. Had they known they wouldn’t get to stay after 2027 without an approved COSA, they may have opted to go to their home school. MCPS officials, including Taylor, have said one thing about MSMC and DCC/NEC (kids who start a program will get finish or kids in regional programs will get to stay to finish) and it’s been different in writing. All documents say entire grades will move. Nothing in writing about MSMC, DCC or NEC kids getting to stay for grades 7/8 or grades 10-12.

Even Mullenholz, who led the Woodward principal search community meetings gave conflicting information verbally and in writing (zoom chats)

There is no more DCC, sadly so not a surprise.
