Legal is legal. What the will says is all that matters. Or what is written into law. That's all that matters.

Yes this is what happens when things aren't equal.

I think money (or lack of) is only part of the problem. I have seen also wealthy families fighting over inheritance. These circumstances amplify dysfunctional family dynamics (black sheep, golden child etc)

My grandmother was in charge of distributing her mom’s “estate” ( they were very poor immigrants) to her 11 siblings. They fought to the point of estrangement over a few hundred dollars.

I wish this story wasn’t so common.

I am about to get on a call with my cousins about the same thing. It's been ongoing for more than 2 years now. I am so tired of it and it is one person of 14 being ridiculous.

My brother and I made a pact that we would never fight over money. Four grandparents and one parent down, and so far so good.

Tale as old as time. My mother’s cousin’s widow (fourth wife) does not speak to me because she believes my mother assisted cousin’s sister in law in removing priceless crystal from the home of cousin’s deceased mother. That woman did not have any priceless crystal but if my mother helped pack up some cut glass and that act freed me from having to interact with the She-Devil widow, then bless my mother!

My grandmother's brother somehow swindled the house away from the rest of the 6 siblings. It wasn't worth much but they didn't speak until her was on his deathbed and she went to see him in the hospital. How sad.

I come from a modest family so we are not talking about millions. After all my grandparents passed away both side of the family are fighting for the inheritance. Grandparents lived overseas and had some properties that in DC would probably not be worth enough to buy a garage. But here we are..
