TBH, I probably wouldn’t have blinked in my early/mid 20s when I was young and broke, as were many of the guys I dated. But in his 40s? Dealbreaker.
Good for you for seeing immediately that this is dishonest and a character flaw. I'm in the middle of a divorce from someone who turned out to be a cheater on every single level. He picked up the tab immediately but then he asked the waiter for the itemized bill so that obviously he could expense it to his company. I found that to be so utterly uncharming. Not so much being cheap, but more being dishonest.
