I read that book and also watched the show. The show has gruesome murder scenes, torture, child abuse, sexual assault, and at least one scene of female masturbation.

No and I am not normally an overly concerned parent. My kids read whatever they wanted at any age.

Sharp Objects is a tough story I’d chose something else.

No way. I'm pretty liberal with my teens when it comes to watching but I thought it was so heavy. There are several scenes about child abuse and cutting. It was hard to watch.

I don’t know anything about that specific show, but even if I did, judgments about what is or isn’t appropriate are highly subjective.
