USPTO just lost an arbitration about RTO. Those in bargaining units that had agreements that predated the RTO memo were reinstated for remote work. Arbitrator found the RTO order was illegal.

Doesn't help the non-bargaining unit folks but a win is a win. And it was the correct result.

My mid-size agency is hiring as well. We did not have RIFs but some people in certain offices were offered VERA. So we got rid of the experienced experts and hiring people with none.

For the federal government (I assume that’s what OP meant by “my agency) It’s not about CRE.

This same thing happened in Trump 1.0 just without all of the RIFs and DOGEing. They put in hiring freezes everywhere and pressured people they didn’t like to leave or retire and then realized they needed people to do the work. And then all of the hiring notices started coming again.

I think CRE vacancies are still around 20-25% in DC. I go against biglaw people in my job and whenever we have zoom calls, they all are quite clearly at their houses. I don’t think Feds alone can save CRE.

I thought the TW stuff would loosen up somewhat once all of fhe RIFs were finished and they got to whatever staffing level it is they wanted to get to but apparently not.

I guess it is loosening up a teeny bit as they are talking about giving everyone at my agency a few hundred ad hoc TW hours per year which would amount to about one day per pay period of TW.

Not always about that. Some people think seeing work being done is more trustworthy - not saying agree. We all need to work remotely or few who take advantage will affect majority.
