Son joined cubs in 4th grade. Currently 7th grade in scouts and aiming for Eagle in high school.

My DD has been in GS since K. She is a rising senior. She's not quite a Juliette but her is troop only exist on paper. She continues with it because she loves volunteering at the local day camps. That's her leadership for college aps.

Mine started in K and is going into 3rd. We will do it as long as he wants and as long as his friends are doing it (rn our den is a lot of his school friends and parents we know). Assume younger sib will be interested. Our troop is not super active but overall it's also a low time commitment at this point. I am sure scouts in more active troops get more out of it.

There are wonderful opportunities for leadership and travel as Girl Scouts get older. My daughter stayed in all the way to high school graduation and attended camp in the summers.

Daughter did girl scouts in kindergarten but the troop fell apart. Son did cub scouts all the way through Ealge Scout and it was an amazing adventure for him. Got to do the coolest summer trips, with amazing service and leadership throughout. Really helped shape him. He had a troop that produced a lot of Eagles, so he had a nice, big cohort of boys doing it along the way, which made it more fun and easier to organize events and trips. Always a group wanting to participate.

I'm the leader above - I know a lot of kids drop heading into middle school, but I'd encourage her to at least stick it out for 6th grade and see what she thinks! The C/S/A program has some amazing opportunities for girls who want to really get involved in things.

I'm a leader for a GS troop of 8th graders that have been together (most of them) since K. 12 of the 15 are returning next year for high school. I expect/hope most of them will stay in it for all of high school at some level at least.
I also just attended an Eagle Court of Honor for an 11th grader last weekend and a Gold Award ceremony for a 10th grader a few months ago.

But of course I also know kids who did it for a year or two in elementary school and then quit.

This question is basically like asking how long did your kids play soccer or take piano lessons. Answers are going to be all over the place depending on the individual kid's interests and the opportunities available where you live.

Started in 2nd grade, went to Eagle Scout. Parent participation only required up to ES. By MS, the older scouts run the show, mostly.

This is my daughter's third and final year in Girl Scouts. She was only in it because a lot of her friends were in it and the troop wasn't particularly well run.

Mine started in first grade and is still active as a rising 9th grader. He is a Life Scout so starting to work on his Eagle project. I suspect that he will continue with Scouts after he earns Eagle because he loves the program. He might move into a Venture Crew, which is a different unit for Scouts 14-21 years old.

How long they stay probably depends on how much they enjoy the program and the opportunities. Different Troops are more active then others and have different areas of interest. It is encouraged to look at many Troops to find one that your Scout thinks is a good fit and it is ok to move if it turns out the current Troop isn't a good fit.
