My sister and her DH live there and love it. Biggest downside is school zoning but that doesn’t sound like a concern for you.

I had a friend who rented in Beekman who I visited a handful of times. Kind of a jarring place- you take a step in and you're in the burbs (but somehow still three blocks from U Street). There seemed to be a lot of 30 something couples with dogs or kids walking around / congregating. Definitely the sort of place where you will get reported to the HOA if you have too many people over (which has its pros and cons). Overall, unique and a good place for someone who wants the comforts of suburbia - but OK with 1/3rd the sq footage - while still being in the city.

I don’t think of it as being anti-city, I just think it’s one of those weird things. I would go for it if all the financials look okay to you. Pay attention to if and how often they have had to do special assessments. I have no intel that they have a problem but you need to check.

And oddly enough, people seem to tolerate the trashing of those neighborhoods in the veiled terms that people use on this board, and no one says that they're out of line. I'm all in favor of being more frank and open about why people generally choose to live in certain places over others.

I rented there many years ago. It is a really, really cool and unique spot in the city, only moreso now that things are more developed on U and 14th st. I would absolutely give it a look. The only slightly problematic thing was that I think there were some plumbing issues in the community. But other than that, great space, parking, location. Not super close to a metro but I had no issues walking everywhere.

Realtor is saying that there is an off-market opportunity — didn’t know this place existed and seems like a hidden gem? Easy parking and gated, plus a few blocks away from a lot of urban amenities. Lack of close metro access is a negative and a little pricy, does anyone have further thoughts? Thinking of moving with partner and dog for further context.
