The grading and reporting regulation requires them to offer at least 2 retakes per quarter. Have they offered them yet? See 4a on page 12 of the regulation:

"Teachers must provide students with at least two opportunities per marking period to retake or revise an assessment product designed to evaluate the student’s mastery of content, such as unit assessments, papers, projects, quizzes or tests, and/or performance tasks."

It's touch dealing with borderline grade when the kids and parents are mentally borderline themselves. The lesson should be try your best and nobodies perfect. But y'all take it as a B grade is a teacher trying to give your student gigantic student loans if they were a couple points away from an A.

I'm not sure what came first the massive grade manipulation/ do over culture, exploiting teachers as the new ones live with poverty wages(after you consider all the money and student debt that comes out of our check), corrupted Ed officials getting glazed and financial incentive by Ed and edtech company sleazebags.

We should care because rules and laws matter in America. Corruption leads to negative outcomes for everyone.

Definitely have your kids talk to the teacher about what if anything they can do to bump it up!

Also, teachers can submit a grade change report after the fact that changes a grade on the transcript. They have 2 months or something to do that. There a form.

Agree with this, though my kid is in dcps. Her favorite teacher is also the harshest grader, since she doesn’t believe in most of the class getting As. I emailed once because my kid turned something that she had missed due to an AP exam that was scheduled during class. The teacher said she could redo over the wkd. She turned it in Sunday only for the teacher to say weekend means by Friday evening. The deadline had passed, so out of luck!

I had to accept this since it seems to be a school policy. My daughter had asked in person but I felt it was worth me so giving a nudge. She will now have a B instead of an A- in the class.

My DC spoke with their teacher, who allowed them to make corrections to an already submitted assignment.

We should do away with letter grades altogether. Most countries just have numerical scores, some out of 20 (France), some out of 100 (East Asian nations).

Is that not literally what the OP suggested? The kid talking to the teacher?

Your child can always ask if there's something extra they can do to earn a slightly higher grade and bump their letter to an A. The worst the teacher can say is no. It's a very good exercise in diplomacy. They should be polite and not insist.

Please do not get involved personally! Parents should get involved when there's bullying or some other unfairness that the child cannot handle by themselves. Not for situations in which the student just didn't do a good enough job.

I don't think they have any real discretion. They aren't allowed to give extra credit, and if the time for redoing work is already closed, they can't really allow a re-do. It's possible that there is something still within the window to re-do that they don't know about. And some teachers have no real deadline for assignments except "end of quarter" -- we've only found that to be true in the most basic classes like PE, though, not in any of the core academic classes.

My kid is at an 89 in like all his classes, so I feel you.

Anyone have luck with kid talking to the teacher about a borderline semester grade that's on the cusp of a higher grade at this point in the quarter? Not sure if there's anything to be done at this stage in the game as it seems like the remaining assignment as listed won't bump up to the next level.
