+1

You sound super emotional

😭😭😭

I definitely am now

This is horrible

Now I am spiraling for sure

Take a breath. It's not worth spiraling over. Honestly, it doesn't sound like a good fit. Value yourself enough to recognize that, grieve a little, and pick yourself up and start looking for something that is. I have had this happen and honestly waited too long trying to make it work when I should have cut bait and moved much earlier. So start planning your exit. Regardless of what they think of you, YOU can't be enjoying this right? It's a two way street with employers and this relationship isn't really working out, the reasons don't really matter. Get out.

Stop showing your frustration. Act like everything is great. And keep looking for a new job.

I would guess you were hoping that by showing your frustration that your boss would be sympathetic to you. Not surprising she's not.

I have had this happen. I think I'm being open and honest and instead I came across as a tad unstable. I very much regret the misstep. I made a couple more after that due to bad advice. I should have just sucked it up and realized that allowing my emotions get involved in a (frustrating) work situation was a mistake.

I was laid off last year, and wanted some longevity. But hearing her say “maybe this isn’t the right fit” definitely has me feeling very insecure. I’m already looking, but should I be looking like they’re going to manage me out/fire me?

I feel I’ve hardly had a chance to even do my job.

It feels impossible. They hired for my function without really knowing what it meant.

I hate this.

I sent a text after business hours.

This would be a red flag to me as a supervisor about you as an employee with regard to your ability to appropriately triage issues and raise them through appropriate channels.

Fair.

Have you asked your boss about other roles? When she asks you if it's a fit, is that because there are other roles that may be a fit?

Under no circumstances would my child continue that employment. Go on the neighborhood listserv and find a babysitting job but don’t lose a finger or fall off a ladder over this summer job. C’mon.

Started job four months ago and have done ALOT to bring order and implement a new process (which I was hired to do). I’ve been a little frustrated due to leadership’s lack of direction, ongoing walking back of decisions, and otherwise poor/unclear communication. The cracks are starting to show and I know I’ve seemed a bit frustrated lately.

Last week I sent my boss a text after a frustrating day outlining that I wasn’t sure how effective I was being. Otherwise no hiccups. I had my 1:1 with my boss today and she said something along the lines of me “spiraling” and said (more than once) “if you don’t think this is a good fit, please let me know.”

We’ve had a positive working relationship, and in that same conversation she said she thinks I’m doing a good job, and it was otherwise a fine conversation. My takeaway is that I should NOT bring up any frustrations and just work on improving my acting skills, because she said the team has the impression that I am disappointed in them (which I frankly am, because they’re not supporting the function I was hired to develop). In any case I reiterated to her that it’s my job to learn how to be successful in this environment and I’m going to do everything I can to make this easy for everyone.

The “fit” comment is very concerning to me and I’m not sure how worried to be. If I just conceal my frustration etc will it be okay, or is this her soft launching my firing? I was really hoping to keep this job for another year.

WWYD? Etc.
