I'd wear the requested color (renting is a good idea or borrow from Buy Nothing or a friend or skip the wedding. In my 20s I went to a wedding that requested black (men) & white (women). I bought a cream colored dress that washed me out and I never wore again, but I am glad I did. One date was not told about the requested colors and wore a royal blue dress. She is beautiful, stunning, and the dress was beautiful, but she said she was uncomfortable all night. The joke was on the bride for making the request, though, because in every wedding photo your eye went not to the bride but to the royal blue in a sea of black and white.

+1 insufferable people, this is really beyond. And let's be real, this wedding is not going to be fun or meaningful - it will be a backdrop for that instagram shots they want.

I think about how happy I was to have everyone at my wedding including people who traveled and made tough logistics work. Everyone looked great too of course in whatever they chose to wear.

To me the request just speaks so poorly of the people getting married and what they value.

I have never heard of such a request before unless you’re in the bridal party. How strange.

Agreed. I hate color coordinated weddings and I'm pretty forgiving about wedding "etiquette" (don't mind no kids, destination, cash bar, honeymoon fund, etc). You'll draw too much negative attention to yourself if you go off color. It's just not worth it. Rent or borrow from a friend.

If invite asks to wear couple of colors you don’t have, is it okay to just avoid bride’s color but wear whatever you have instead of mandatory colors?
