I don't really agree with this - "one singular top that can stand on its own" is a really big category to say is completely out and certainly does not only evoke the 2010s. Layering can be hot in the summer! And people don't only wear blazers and cardigans.

What has changed is that tops are boxier now, a bit more oversized. I have also been on a journey to find more work tops and have been shopping at a lot of the same stores -- J Crew, BR, Madewell, Evereve have lots of good stuff and then many higher end brands. Nordstrom is your friend.

Silk shirts from Quince are perfect for layering and laundering in the heat. Not the highest quality but thwy are serviceable.

The silk tops from Quince look so cheap and the colors don't seem summer appropriate - did you order any and what do you think? The Quince stuff that I love, I LOVE, but some of it just misses the mark for me. Hoping there is something I am missing on their site that I can order!!

I usually buy my work tops from Ann Taylor, jcrew and BR, but everything is seeming frumpy. Does anyone have any cute suggestions. Looking for button down, silk tops, things that can look good with a skirt or pant and still look good if I need to put on my blazer.
