From our unfortunate experience, I’m not sure the police will really care. My DD wasn’t physically bullied, but there was constant online harassment.

It finally came to head when the bully got a boy to call her and say he was coming to rape her. We could hear the bully in the background. This was captured in a voicemail.The school said they could do nothing, so I did go to the police. They came and took a report, but it didn’t seem like much came of it. Luckily, they went to different schools the next year.

This is why she needs to meet with the Principal first and ask to view the CCTV footage before they erase it (some schools erase every 24hrs).

Why would her summer be ruined? If it’s true that she was bullied then I applaud her for standing up and defending herself. I hope you stood up for her too in the principal’s office.

Eh she's in HS. I got in fights in HS which involved suspensions and still went on to college. No big deal.

Unless your DD is expelled, you’re fine. Summer isn’t ruined. Fights do happen on occasion. It’s not the end of the world.

If you think the other girl assaulted your child, by all means file a police report. Did you file one or more bullying complaint(s) at school, and did you involve the counselor?

Go to the meeting with an open mind, while insisting on the fact that another student started the fight.

I'm sorry your daughter is in this situation. If the fight happened in the hallway of the school, then there is probably a video. I'd try to get a copy of that and then decide what to do about a police report.

DD (16) got into a physical fight on the last day of school and I honestly don't know where to begin.

She has been relentlessly bullied all year by a girl in a rival friend group. The school has done absolutely nothing despite months of drama, harassment, rumors, and social warfare over boys and friendships. On the very last day of school, this girl finally attacked my daughter by pushing her. DD defended herself by pushing back, and a fight broke out.

Now somehow MY daughter is the one facing consequences. She was forced to stay after school, missed her bus, and now we have to report to the principal's office even though she was the victim. Her entire summer is now ruined because of this.

I am seriously considering filing a police report and pressing charges against the other girl and possibly pursuing legal action against the school for failing to protect my child despite a year of bullying.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Can schools really punish a child for defending herself after being physically assaulted? I am absolutely furious.
