We had multiple families try to join our team based on their club times and get upset that they would have to get on the pool's waitlist. They thought there was a cut the line policy for fast kids.

I think that high school kids in general get more chill about summer swim. They have friends, activities, jobs, beach week, etc. that starts also taking up time and being quite fun. So summer swim is not the only game in town anymore. I think it is a sign of a well adjusted kid. There is a reason that kids grow out of summer swim - it starts at 15 and is over by graduation.

I think we can all understand the challenge of their situation. It's hard to make 2 or practice times, there are other things going on in life etc. If they are new to the team (sounds like they are) then they don't have a carpool situation figured out etc.

I'm also going to guess your Board said "Ok thanks for letting us know" and promptly moved forward with no change to anything.


What would you have the Board do?

Totally- it is for fun, but my kids do care about their times (even though they aren't USA swimming official). My point is that to say that the "times don't matter" is to be missing the point of summer swim!

This thread makes me so thankful my kids left swim team. Life is way too short for this kind of drama and politics. It's been incredibly refreshing to reclaim the pool as a place for fun, relaxation, and simply enjoying being there.

We’ve already had a family quit in a huff and complain to the pool board when they found out their wildly differently-aged kids couldn’t attend the same practice. We have a huge team full of siblings; practice HAS to be by age group.

AI can do this for you now. All you need is last year's times, number of days each kid swam during the winter, which club they swam for, and how many calories they consumed per day.


I prefer to rely on the gossip on DCUM for that.

AI can do this for you now. All you need is last year's times, number of days each kid swam during the winter, which club they swam for, and how many calories they consumed per day.

We have not had time trials yet and parents are already upset that their kids will not be be swimming in A meets.
