This is correct. Some of the high school bands and orchestra are a level above anything you could find in many privates.

People have been doing this for decades. There are kids every year that have been in private school since ES then go to public for HS. Most adapt just find.

As a teacher, I have seen this work for some kids. You just need to be be very selective about the private school. Avoid the “Christian Academy” type. This is not to say avoid all religious schools. Many are strong.

That's strange. Why would they get more money every year? It's not like they have to deal with inflation like the rest of us.

Or new unfunded/under-funded mandates.

Or structural deficits that were unaddressed/under-addressed in prior years' budgets, then compounding, that now require remediation because they've become so bad.

Or an increase in the needs/challenges of the student population served.

Or...

But, hey, the schools in wealthier areas are still relatively OK, and we wouldn't want to raise taxes because it would disproportionately impact folks in those areas.

MCPS is totally f’ed up but that is one dumb reason to leave. You can come up with 1000s reasons easy.

Supplement through AoPS, RSM, other sources. Irs cheaper than doing private/moving

What age and grade are your kids?

Also, the specific schools matter a lot when factoring this decision and not necessarily the system.

Anyone considering leaving with the budget cut announcement that just happened? We have been in public schools and my kids are doing ok, but I feel like with the budget cuts this year and talk of much more to come in the next few years it may be best to get out now, before things go even further downhill. Anyone else feeling this way?
